Gardening Class for Kids

On Saturday, July 23rd at 11 AM, bring the kiddos and prepare to indulge your senses in our garden sensory class!

Parents and children will stimulate their senses while learning about flowers, herbs, and succulents. After the short-and-sweet lesson, you’ll get to create a mini garden to take home with you.

The class costs $35. All materials (the bowl, soil, flowers, herbs, and succulents) will be provided. Children are encouraged to bring their own toys to decorate their mini garden.

Heatwave Watering Tips

The heat is cranking up, and your plants are feeling it, too!

Water your plants deeply and regularly during extremely hot temperatures.

Hand water your extra thirsty plants so they get all the moisture they need.

Stay on top of watering for your container plants and seedlings. Container plants tend to dry out more quickly than in-ground plants. Seedlings are vulnerable and can’t handle the heat and drought conditions as well as mature plants.

Try to avoid running the sprinklers. Sprinklers may not be as efficient as hand watering your plants during a heat wave.

Let Your Houseplants Enjoy the Great Outdoors

It’s time to send off your houseplant babies to summer camp! Your plants will show you their gratitude by putting out tons of new growth.

Before you set them outside in one fell swoop, you’ll need to harden off your plants first. Place them near open windows, keeping the windows open at night to provide them with fresh air for a few days.

When considering which outdoor spots to place your houseplants in, find an area that’s shaded and protected from the elements.

Be sure to water your houseplants well before placing them outside. A hydrated state will make for a smoother transition to the outdoors.

Choose Your Companion Plants Well

Did you know that plants have buddies, too? Companion plants defend each other, enjoy being near one another, and even drink from the same watering source.

Keep these plants together on the same irrigation line, and watch them root for each other:

• Tomatoes, peppers, basil, marigolds

• Corn, beans, nasturtiums, summer savory

• Cucumbers, peas, marigolds, dill, lettuce

• Carrots, onions, leeks, chives

• Lettuce, mint, chives, garlic

• Summer squash/zucchini, beans, peas

Drought-tolerant Plant Recommendations

If you’re vacation-bound and don’t want to worry about returning home to dead plants, fill your garden with drought-tolerant plants. Here are our recommendations:
